It is not recommended to separate the kitten from its mother before 4 weeks. Usually the mother weens the kittens completely by 8 or 9 weeks old. This makes them dependent and cats are independent creatures.
How do i start the weaning process. They should be stopped even if it comforts them. The complete weaning process generally takes about a month meaning that the wee kittens are usually fully weaned when they are between 8 and 10 weeks in age. The next month of life is still full of essentials for a growing kitten even if it isn t consuming its mother s milk all of the time.
They shouldn t be relying on their mother to this time. Mother cats will typically start to wean their kittens off their milk at one month of age. Most kittens are fully weaned. They usually stop at six to ten weeks but often they don t stop feeding until a little later.
They certainly should mot be nursing at 4 months and should be separated from their mother unless you plan to keep them in. This does not mean that this is the time that the kittens can go home though.
